St. Vincent de Paul Novena

Feast Day - 27th September.

Novena Prayers.

Lord, Jesus Christ, you came into this world to bring salvation to a people afflicted by evil and wounded by sin. Through your divine power, the blind received sight, the lame walked, lepers were cleansed, and the poor had the Gospel preached to them. We praise you Lord Jesus, which through the life and witness of your servant St. Vincent de Paul, such great wonders are still seen and heard in your Church. Send your Holy Spirit into our hearts, and renew within us the gifts we have received from St. Vincent, that we may grow rich through our service of the poor, and become free by our love of the oppressed. We ask this of you Lord, who lives and reigns forever and ever.

A Prayer to St. Vincent de Paul.

St. Vincent, loving servant of the poor, we come to you in our need, believing that you will hear us, confident of your help. May the fire of Christ's love, kindled by the Holy Spirit in your heart, become the flame of zeal in our lives, that we may bring healing to the broken hearted, freedom to the captives, and good news of Chirst to the poor. May the cloak of your charity, enfold us in the love of Jesus our master, and cover us with compassion for the lowly and tender mercy of the afflicted.

Teach us holy servant of Christ, how we should love the poor and reverence within them the presence of Jesus. Inspire us to believe that Christ will fill our hearts with love, and fill our hands with plenty, and multiply our littleness to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked. Humble servant of the Church, lead us in all ways of Christ's love, that like you we may let the light of His presence shine in a world made dark by selfishness and sin.

Help us oh great St. Vincent, to understand that Jesus Christ is the rule of our mission. May we, according to your counsel, live in Jesus Christ by the death of Jesus Christ, die in Jesus Christ by the life of Jesus Christ, may our life be hidden in Jesus Christ, and full of Jesus Christ.

     •  St. Vincent, protector of the young............ Pray for us.
     •  St. Vincent, friend of the oppressed........... Pray for us.
     •  St. Vincent, inspiration of the clergy........... Pray for us.
     •  St. Vincent, hope of the poor..................... Pray for us.

A Prayer of Petition to St. Vincent.

O Glorious St. Vincent, heavenly patron of all associations of charity, and father of the miserable; who during your life, never rejected anyone who had recourse to you. Behold by how many evils we are afflicted, and come to our assistance. Obtain from out Lord, help for the poor, relief for the sick, consolation for the afflicted, protection for the abandoned, charity for the rich, conversion for sinners, zeal for priests, peace for the Church, tranquillity for the people, salvation for all. Let all experience the effects of your merciful intercession, that helped by you in the miseries of this life, may be united with you above, where there will be neither sorrow, nor weeping, nor pain, but eternal joy and happiness.

O God, who for the sanctification of souls, and salvation of the poor especially, has raised up by our spiritual father, the blessed Vincent, a new family in your Church, grant we beseech you through his intercession, the favour we now request (PAUSE AND MENTION YOUR INTENTION), and the grace that we may imitate his virtues, and that animated by his spirit, we may love what he loved, and practise what he taught.

Pray for us, St. Vincent, take us under your fatherly protection, that we may be made worthy of the promise of Christ. O most blessed and glorious St. Vincent de Paul, the model of evangelical perfection, permit us to join our thanksgivings for the favours bestowed on you, to the transport which will eternally overflow your pure soul. We thank the almighty for having crowned your profound humility and indefatigable zeal with eternal glory, and we beseech you by the tender charity which on earth would have made you sacrifice a thousand lives to save one soul, to obtain for us the simplicity, mortification, humility, meekness, and that ardent zeal for the salvation of others, and constant union with God, which were your favourite virtues, and which are the essence of our holy vocation.

Ask for us oh blessed St. Vincent de Paul, the helps and co-operation which we are in need of for promoting God's glory and for aiding the poor of Christ whom you loved so exceedingly while on earth. Accept oh great saint our united homage, which is far short of that which your virtues deserve, and teach us to become like you, all things to all, that we may gain all for Christ. Grant oh Lord, that in ech of our actions, we may have no other desire, than that of pleasing you. We ask this, through our Lord Jesus Christ, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God forever and ever. Amen.
