Food for Thought

Extracts from the Catechism on the Priesthood.

The priest is not a priest for himself; he does not give himself absolution; he does not administer the Sacraments to himself. He is not for himself, he is for you. After God, the priest is everything.

When people wish to destroy religion, they begin by attacking the priest, because where there is no longer any priest there is no sacrifice, and where there is no longer any sacrifice there is no religion.

What joy did the Apostles feel after the Resurrection of Our Lord, at seeing the Master whom they had loved so much! The priest must feel the same joy, at seeing Our Lord whom he holds in his hands.

The priesthood is the love of the Heart of Jesus. When you see the priest, think of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

St. John Mary Vianney, the Holy Curé of Ars.

A Message by George Carlin.

The Paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spendmore, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees, but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgement, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh to little, drive too fast, get too tired, read too little, watch T.V. too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied por possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not life. We've added years to life, not life to years. W've been all the way to the Moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour. We have conquered outer space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted our soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more. but accomplish less. learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate les and less.

These are the timess for fast food and slow digestion, big men, and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and time when you can choose either to share this insight, or just bin it.

Remember; spend time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember; say a king word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because the little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of ll mean it and embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but ny the moments that take our breath away.

George Carlins.

Reasons to be thankful.

A rich man looked through his window and saw a poor man picking something from his dustbin...
He said, "Thank GOD I'm not poor."

The poor man looked arouns and saw a naked man misbehaving on the street...
He said, "Thank GOD I'm not mad."

The mad man looked ahead and saw an ambulance carrying a patient...
He said, "Thank GOD I'm not sick."

Then a sick person in hospital saw a trolley taking a dead body to the mortuary...
He said, "Thank GOD I'm not dead."

Only a dead person cannot thank God.

Why don't you thank GOD today for all your blessings and for the gift of life... for another beautiful day.

What is LIFE?

To understand life better, you have to go to 3 locations:

1. Hospital

2. Prison

3. Cemetery

At the Hospital, you will understand nothing is more beautiful than HEALTH.

In the Prison, you'll see that FREEDOM is the most precious thing.

At the Cemetery, you will realise that life is worth living.
The ground that we walk today will be our roof tomorrow.

Sad truth:
We all come with 'Nothing' and we will go with 'Nothing'.
Let us therefore remain humble and be thankful and grateful to God at all times for everything.

I shall pass through this world but once.
Any good therefore that I can do
or kindness that I can show to any human being,
let me do it now.
Let me not defer not neglet it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Lifestyle is not a competition, and there are different ways to get a lot of things done.
There are different lanes, all leading to the same destination.
That your neighbour is doing things faster does not mean that you are failing.
Avoid jealousy and gossips and it will be well with you.
Happiness does not come from having everything,
but making the best out of what you have.
It is all about how you see yourself.
Be objective, be focused, be hopeful and be truthful in life.

Muhammed Ali's Advice to his daughters.

An incident transpired when Muhammed Ali's daughters arrived at his home wearing clothes that were quite revealing. Here is the story told by one of his daughters:

"When finally we arrived, the chauffer escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father's suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in ine day.
My father took a look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me stright in the eyes and said,

"Hana, everything God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to.
Where do you find Diamonds?
Deep down in the ground, covered and protected.
Where do you find Pearls?
Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell.
Where do you find Gold?
Way down the mine, covered over by layers and layers of rock. You've got to work hard to get them"

He looked at me with serioues eyes.

Your body is sacred. You're far more precious than diamond and pearls, and you should be covered too."

Muhammed Ali.

Live for Today

'There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done.
One is called Yesterday and the other is called Tomorrow.
So, today is the right day to Love, Believe, Do and mostly Live.'

Dalai Lama.

Send Your Angel to Holy Mass.

1  Holy Angel at my side,
Go to the church for me
Kneel in my place at Holy Mass
     Where I desire to be.

2  At offertory, in my stead
Take all I am and own
And place it as a sacrifice
     Upon the altar throne

 3  At holy consecration's bell,
     Adore with seraph's love
My Jesus hidden in the Host
     Come down from heav'n above.

4  Then pray for those I dearly love
And those who cause me grief
That Jesus' Blood may cleanse all
     Hearts and suffering souls relieve.

5  And when the priest Communion takes
Oh, bring my Lord to me,
That His sweet Heart may rest on mine
     And His temple be.

6  Pray that this Sacrifice Divine
     May amnkind's sins efface;
Then bring me Jesus' Blessing home-
     The pledge of every grace.

'The greatest human adventure is to seek God. The greatest human achievement is to find God. The greatest of romances is to fall in love with God'

"How wonderful the bond between two believers, now one in hope, one in desire, one in discipline, one in the same service!
They are both children of one Father and servants of the same Master, undivided in spirit and flesh, truly two in one flesh.
Where the flesh is one, one also is the spirit."

Tertullian, Ad uxorem.

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't quit

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow-
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out-
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

The Beautiful Hands of a Priest

We need them in life's early morning,
We need them again at it's close;
We feel their warm clasp of true friendship,
We seek them when tasting life's woes.

At the altar each day we behold them,
And the hand of a king on his throne
Are not equal to them in their greatness;
Their diginity stands all alone.

And when we are tempted and wander
To pathways of shame and sin,
It's the hand of a priest will absolve us,
Not once, but again, and again.

And when we are taking life's partner,
Other hands may prepare us a feast,
But the hand that will bless and unite us,
Is the beautiful hand of a priest.

God bless them and keep them all holy
For the Host which their fingers caress;
When can a poor sinner do better
Than to ask Him to guide thee and bless?

When the hour of death comes upon us,
May out courage and strength be increased.
By seeing raised over us in blessing;
The beautiful hands of a priest.

We Are All Gifted.

'Christ has no body now on earth but yours; yours are the only hands by which He can do his work, yours are the only feet by which He can go around the world, yours are the only eyes through which His compassion can shine forth upon a troubled world. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.'

St. Teresa of Avila.
