Eucharistic Adoration (Except Sundays and Bank Holidays)

In this Parish, since about 1997, we have been responding to the Call of the Church, to open our doors and establish Eucharistic Adoration. Men and women have pledged time to adore Christ in the Eucharist.

Pope John Paul II proclaims: "the best, the surest and the most effective way of establishing everlasting Peace, is through the great Power of the Blessed Sacrament".

Following the attempt on his life, Pope John Paul II established Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in St. Peter's Basilica. Now he desires to see Perpetual Adoration established in every Parish throughout the world.

Mother Teresa was asked: "What will help us to be converted to Jesus?"

Her answer was simple and direct: "Prayer. What we need," she said, "is for every Parish to come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in Holy Hours of Prayer".

Padre Pio, who bore the Wounds of Jesus Christ in his body, and who was Beatified by the Pope on 2nd May 1999 and Cannonized by Pope John Paul II on 16th June 2002 stated: "A thousand years of enjoying human glory is not worth even one hour spent communing with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament."

The Jesus that dwells in the Blessed Sacrament, is the same Jesus in the Gospel Who cast out the demons, calmed the storm, cured the sick and raised the dead. The Eucharist is our Risen Lord with all the power of His Resurrection flowing out to all who come into His Eucharistic Presence. His Words to us today are the same as ever: "Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid".

The church is open for prayer Monday to Saturday 8.00 a.m. until 7.30 p.m.
Suitable alarm systems operate to protect the Lord and the property.

At Our Lady of Sorrows, we have various programmes throughout the Liturgical Year to encourage parishioners to participate in spending time watching with the Lord in Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. It is a time given to Jesus, in prayer, in meditation, in praise, or just in the quiet moments of our hearts.

On the First Friday of each month, we have continuous Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 6.00 a.m. until 6.00 p.m.

Three or four times during the year, we have our 'Come unto me!' programme, which takes place over three days with Exposition and Adoration taking place for 2 hours on a Wednesday and Thursday Evening, and on the Friday we have the Adoration Night Vigil from 10.30 p.m until 4.00 a.m. Saturday morning.
