Following the address to the nation by the U.K. Prime Minister, the Government has mandated the ‘closure of all shops selling non-essential goods, including clothing and electronic stores, and other premises including libraries, playgrounds and outdoor gyms, and places of worship.’

So, with immediate effect, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church will be closed to the public until further notice.

The doors to the church will remain closed until the restrictions have been lifted.

  • The priests of our church reside within the premises, and so their will be private Masses celebrated daily as usual, only that a CONGREGATION WILL NOT BE PRESENT NOR ANY OTHER PERSON WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE PRIEST(S) WHO RESIDE IN THE FRIARY OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS CATHOLIC CHURCH.

  • SPIRITUAL COMUNNION: you can unite yourself with the Lord through Spiritual Communion.

  • We are ever united in our FAITH in the Lord Jesus Christ. Make your home a place of prayer.

  • Call the church on 020 7639 0947 on send an email to peckham@rcaos.org.uk if you have questions or concerns.

  • Let us continue to pray for one another. Please, let us reach out to other parishioners and encourage them. We will try and keep in touch as much as possible. Take a look at the bible passages below:

  1. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing" (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

  2. "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings likes eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint." (Isaiah 40:31).

  3. "Pray constantly." (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

  4. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9).

  5. "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong." (1 Corinthians 16:13).

You can make a Spiritual Communion if you are unable to receive at home or anywhere uniting yourself with the Lord; Say:

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Welcome to Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church.

A warm welcome to you all,

"On this mountain, for all peoples,
Yahweh Sabaoth is preparing
A banquet of rich food, a banquet
of fine wines, of succulent food, of
well-strained wines.   On this
mountain, he has destroyed the veil
which used to veil all peoples
the pall enveloping all nations;
He has destroyed death forever.
Lord Yahweh has wiped away
the tears from every cheek;
He has taken his people's shame everywhere on earth
For Yahweh has spoken."

(Isaiah 25: 6–8)

This is God's dream for all humanity !!!!

God is envisioning a world where all people from every nation, culture and tradition could be able to come together and celebrate life in its fullness.

God is dreaming of a world without racial, social, cultural, age or sexual discrimination.

God is yearning for a world without boundaries, a community which is inclusive, safe and hospitable towards everyone.

A community in which one can celebrate and ritualise life in all its intense experiences and emotions.

A community where one can call home!!!

A community where God dwells within!!!

We, at Our Lady of Sorrows, acknowledge that we are still pilgrims on a journey and yet hope that we will make a difference and help to make God's dream a reality in our world today!!!

Hopefully, in going through our website, you will be imbued by the Spirit of God's dream as well.

With affection

Rev. Fr. Vincent George, CM.

(Parish Priest)

A beginning!
This parish was founded by the English Province of the Capuchin Franciscans in the 1850s, to serve the Catholic Community in the Peckham area of South-East London. It aims to bring Christ into people's lives, in a part of London that is relatively poor, culturally diverse - but where there is also great enthusiasm and openness to God.
